Cutting for Glory: The First Sparks of the TJ-to-LJ Conversion

Cutting for Glory: The First Sparks of the TJ-to-LJ Conversion

The Moment of Commitment

There’s no turning back once the cutting wheel hits steel. This week, we took the first bold step in transforming our TJ into a trail-dominating LJ—cutting the frame and prepping for the GenRight Conversion kit. It’s a moment that separates bolt-on builders from true fabricators.

Precision Over Power

Stretching a Jeep isn’t just about adding length—it’s about maintaining geometry, strength, and trail integrity. We started by:

  • Measuring and marking the cut points with laser precision

  • Bracing the frame to prevent sag or twist

  • Cutting the rear section clean, exposing the bones of the beast

Every cut was intentional. Every weld had a purpose.

Welding the Foundation

With the GenRight kit in hand, we began the weld-in process:

  • Frame extensions were fitted and tacked in place

  • Crossmembers were reinforced for added rigidity

  • Welds were laid down with care—no cold joints, no shortcuts

This phase is where craftsmanship meets confidence. You don’t stretch a Jeep unless you trust your hands and your tools.

Behind the Scenes

We documented every step—sparks flying, steel glowing, and the Jeep slowly evolving. These aren’t just build photos—they’re proof of purpose.

Why It Matters

This stretch isn’t just cosmetic. It gives the Jeep:

  • Better stability on climbs and descents

  • More cargo space for gear and recovery tools

  • A longer footprint for smoother articulation

It’s the kind of transformation that turns a weekend wheeler into a serious off-road machine.

What’s Next

Next week, we dive into suspension and stance—dialing in the geometry and choosing the right setup to match this new wheelbase.
